3 languages, 5 channels as Star starts new BCCI rights cycle with historic Test

Star Sports will play it big with cricket yet again. The debut Test match for Afghanistan will also mark the beginning of Star Sport’s new media rights cycle with the Board of Control for Cricket in India.

As Afghanistan cricket team walk out on to the cricket field in white flannels for the first time ever for their debut Test match against hosts India, Star Sports will broadcast the game live in three languages, across five network channels.

Star Sports 1 and Star Sports 1 HD, Star Sports 1 Hindi and Star Sports 1 HD and Star Sports Tamil will broadcast the historical Test live with English, Hindi and Tamil commentary respectively.

Star India had retained the BCCI media rights in a record ₹ 6,138.1 crore deal. The five-year cycle (April 2018-March 2023) as for the FTP involves 102 international matches to be hosted by the Indian cricket board during the rights period.

The India-Afghanistan Test starting tomorrow will also give Star Sports a place in cricket’s glorious history as the official broadcaster for Afghanistan’s entry in Test cricket.

In an action-packed week for sports, Star Sports will also broadcast live the CEAT UTT, India’s official professional table tennis league, and the BWF US Open. The table tennis league action will be broadcast live on Star Sports Select 1 and Star Sports Select 1 HD. Star Sports 2 and Star Sports 2 HD will be the screens for the live badminton action on Sunday and Monday.
