Can the Asia Cup 2020 venues be shifted from Pakistan if India declines to play there? Yes seems to be the answer as uncertainty prevails in the Pakistan Cricket Board.

The Pakistan Cricket Board might not be able to host the Asia Cup 2020 at home next year as the Asian Cricket Council will reportedly take a final call next year whether the matches can be held in Pakistan as per plan.

While the PCB, hosts for the Asia Cup 2020, have earlier stated that they will wait till June next year on India’s confirmation for playing in Pakistan, a source in the Pakistan Cricket Board has reportedly told news agency ANIL that ACC will take the final call on the matter.

Apart from security concerns of playing in the terror-torn nation, the Indian Government has had a firm stand of not having any sporting ties with Pakistan unless its neighbor shuns the policy of harboring terrorists and backing terror attacks on the nation.

Pakistan to host 2020 Asia Cup, UAE likely neutral venue

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is yet to confirm their participation in the tournament. With rising tensions among India and Pakistan, the former has refrained from playing bilateral series against Pakistan.

“We will wait until June 2020 for BCCI’s final decision and after that will take a call whether the tournament will take place in Pakistan or not. The event has been scheduled to be played in  Pakistan but we will wait until June for more clarification before the final venue is confirmed,” the news agency has quoted a PCB source as saying.

“And after that ACC will take a call. If you remember last time India was scheduled to host the tournament but the event eventually took place in UAE. This is a tournament which is played under the supervision of ACC and it has been allocated to the PCB so ACC will take a final call after consultation with PCB but the decision will be made around June 2020,” the source added.

Reigning Asia Cup champions India has not been playing any bilateral cricket with Pakistan and the two teams have last met only at the ICC Men’s World Cup in England earlier this year.
