Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore is looking forward to form partnerships and take sports infrastructure beyond the corridors of power and clutches of red-tapeism. The dynamic Sports Minister is seeking corporate support to maintain stadiums and sports infrastructure in the Capital.
Rathore, the 2004 Athens Olympics silver medallist, has called upon the corporate to adopt Sports Authority of India’s top five stadiums in Delhi. The sports minister believe the corporate-State partnership will boost the development of sports and help channelise the young talent in the country.
The Minister also lamented the fact that in a nation of 130 crore population not more than 5,000 athletes are playing at a competitive level to represent India or win medals.
“We need changes in everything. The vision of our Prime Minister Narendra Modi is very clear – to develop a young and vibrant India. We need to create a sporting culture for our next generation. So I call upon the corporate sector to take over five big stadiums of the capital,” Indian Express has quoted the Sports Minister as saying.
“Today it’s about just 5,000 athletes out of 100 crore people competing and winning one or two medals. But the day we wake up the world will realise our potential. There will be a big change. From now on it’s all about player-centric preparation. Sportsmen are most important. Players, fans and coaches are key and Indian Olympic Association (IOA), federations (NSFs) and Sports Ministry officials will be below them,” Rathore added.
“We need to bring down IOA, federations and Sports Ministry officials who used to call the shots earlier. Their responsibility will be to give the athletes the necessary help and platforms.”, the Minister said.
Rathore has also been insisting on bringing in professionalism and transparency in functioning of sport federations.
The Minsiter, popularly known as RVS in sports circles, is working on to create a system where sportspersons get the desired attention. His ambitious plans include lauch of a mobile application for sports. The priority sports will get this app support first. The project has got the Cabinet nod.
