Sony ESPN will broadcast the St Moritz Cricket on Ice live in India. Another Indian brand Amul has bagged the title sponsorship rights for the two-day competition.
The Sony Sports Network has acquired the media rights for the two-day unconventional format of the game – slated for February 8 and 9 on the St Moritz frozen lake in Switzerland.
The two-day competition on the hard icy cricket field will feature yesteryear greats like Virender Sehwag, Zaheer Khan, Lasith Malinga and Shahid Afridi.
Shoaib Akhtar, Michael Hussey, Graeme Smith, Jacques Kallis, Daniel Vettori, Nathan McCullum, Grant Elliot, Monty Panesar and Owais Shah are the other star attractions.
The “Cricket on Ice” event was originally started by the British for nearly three decades. The competition has been a regular feature for over 25 years on the St. Moritz frozen lake.
The lake freezes into an extremely thick layer of ice which then is covered by the soft falling snow, enabling the lake to withstand more than 200 tons of weight, which makes it the perfect area to construct a pavilion village and grandstands to watch and support the festivities.
However, it will be the first time in the history of the competition that the renowned international cricketers will compete on snow and bring a new form of entertainment to the world of cricket. The pitch consists of an artificial turf carpet laid out on the perfectly groomed snowfield for the two T20 matches.
The cricket matches are followed by an entertainment program on the lake and the party will continue on throughout the night.
