Atletico de Kolkata has recruited Ashley Westwood as their technical director.

Westwood has earlier guided Bengaluru FC to two I-League titles during his three –year stint with the club.

Atlético de Kolkata co-owner Sanjiv Goenka, Chairman, RP- Sanjiv Goenka Group, has announced the signing with Westwood, who has long successful career with renowned football clubs in England as a player and a coach.

“I take this opportunity to welcome our Technical Director Ashley Westwood to ATK family and believe that it is going to be a fascinating experience for him. Our effort to incorporate professionalism and build a well-knit team has further been heightened by Westwood joining the squad. His multifarious profile and experience of coaching in India will guide ATK in making it big for this season,” Mr Goenka said.

ATK, however, haven’t yet named the successor to head coach Jose Molina after talks with the Spaniard fell through. July 15 is the deadline for teams to name their coach. Westwood will have the first task to assist the ATK finding the right man for the job.

The Kolkata club has retained retained star goalkeeper Debjit Majumder and Prabir Das ahead of the player draft.

Meanwhile, Kerala Blasters have approached former England coach Sven Goran Eriksson to be their head coach. The 69-year-old Swede, who has coached clubs like Roma, Manchester City and national teams like Ivory Coast and Mexico, has been shown the door by Chinese club Shenzhen FC last month after a poor season and it has emerged that the Sachin Tendulkarco-owned franchise has shown interest in him, TOI has reported. “We were in talks but it looks unlikely that Eriksson wants to be on board with the present terms and conditions. However, we cannot entirely rule out his name at this stage,” said a Kerala Blasters official.
