“For me it was really fun,” Osaka said after her victory, adding, “I was really nervous and scared because I didn’t know if she was going to hit a drop shot on any ball so I felt kind of rushed, but I hope you guys enjoyed the match.”
“A couple of years ago I think I said I really like your ‘Aussie Aussie Aussie, Oi Oi Oi’ chant. I remember when I first came here I was just walking from the stands and I remember clapping with everyone. It was super fun. I want to thank you guys for watching the match,” Osaka said.
Osaka, who won her first Grand Slam title in 2019, was forced to pause in the second set when a butterfly fluttered into her face and she moved it to the side of the court with her racket.
The third seed has three Grand Slam titles to her name, including two US Open titles.
Later today, Dominic Thiem will be action against Nick Kyrios in the third round. Men’s World No.1 Novak Djokovic and Women’s No.2 Simona Halep will also play for a spot in the fourth round of Aus Open 2021 in their respective singles matches at the Melbourne Court.
