Aus Open 2021 women’s singles results- Top seeds Naomi Osaka, Serena Williams on Monday registered victories in the opening round of the Australian Open 2021 and registered their berth for the second round. While Osaka, Venus and Serena Williams managed to dominate against their opponents, 67th seed Bernarda Pera of the US defeated 23rd ranked Angelique Kerber in one of today’s fixtures biggest upset the Aus Open 2021.
In the earlier matches, the world No. 3 Naomi Osaka came out on top. She made a stunning start in the Australian Open on Monday by defeating triple quarter-finalist Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova in straight sets (6-1, 6-2) to enter the second round. She is competing for her second title in the Aus Open. The 23-year-old will next face the winner of Carloine Garcia and Polona Hercog for a place in the third round.
Meanwhile, Serena Williams too got off to a very good start as she continued her dominance in the Australian Open 2021 with a one sided win over L Siegemund. The 23-time Grand Slam champion thrashed the German 6-1, 6-1 to book her name for the second round. Williams, 39, is chasing a record-equal title (24 grand slams) held by Margaret Court.
Serena’s sister Venus Williams also got off to a good start as he managed 7-5, 6-2 win in yet another match dominated by the top-seeded player in women’s singles.
The main contest of the day was between Angelique Kerber and Bernarda Pera where the latter defeated the three-time Grand Slam champion by a massive margin of 6-0, 6-4.
In other fixtures, Ajla Tomljanovic, I Swiatek, Z Diyas, R Marino, A Schiedlova, C Giorgi, S Errani, T Babos, N Stojanovic, D Kasatkina and C Garcia also secured a place in the second round.
