AUS-W beat IND-W: Australia keeps the winning streak alive with 5 wickets win over India Women on the back of Beth Mooney’s unbeaten ton: Australia registerd 5 wickets win over India Women in a thrilling encounter here at Mackay in the second ODI on the back of Beth Mooney’s match-winning unbeaten 125 to keep their winning streak alive. It is the third-highest successful run chase in Women’s ODIs while Australia’s winning streak now is extended to 26 wins in a row.

Chasing 275 runs, Australia had a shaky start as they were soon reduced to 52-4 when Beth Mooney and Tahlia McGrath resurrected the innings with 126 runs partnership for the fifth wicket. While Deepti Sharma provided the breakthrough to the visitors after removing Tahlia McGrath, Beth Mooney and Nicola Carey made sure there are no further losses in wicket as well as momentum.

With 13 required off the last over, Nicola Carey and Beth Mooney kept a check on their nerve and sealed the win for the side on the last ball of the innings. Mithali Raj handed the ball to Jhulan Goswami – who bowled a couple of no-balls – importantly the last ball which was just above the waist when 3 runs were required. With 2 required off the last ball, Nicola Karey kept her cool and guided the full toss ball from Jhulan to long on for 2 runs to seal the win. Beth Mooney played the anchor role and slammed twelve fours in her unbeaten 125 runs knock and was later adjudged as player of the match.

AUS-W beat IND-W: Earlier, improving their previous performance, India Women posted a competitive total of 274/7 on the back of Smriti Mandhana’s 86 and Richa Ghosh’s 44 along with a handy partnership of 53 runs between Jhulan Goswami and Pooja Vastrakar at the end. Put into bat, India Women had a good start as both the openers added 74 runs for the opening wicket before Sophie Molineux provided the breakthrough to the home side, dismissing Shafali Verma. Skipper Mithali Raj was a little unfortunate as she went back to the pavilion after being run out while Yastika Bhatia too got out cheaply.

Smriti Mandhana and Richa Ghosh then added seventy-odd runs for the fourth wicket before Mandhana perished after scoring a fine 86, falling shy of a well-deserved hundred. She looked in good touch right from the start and hit eleven fours to register her 19th ODI fifty before getting dismissed by Tahlia McGrath. Richa Ghosh was another key contributor with the bat as she scored 44 off 50 but couldn’t complete her fifty. Later, Pooja Vastrakar (29) and Jhulan Goswami (unbeaten 28) added 53 runs to help India breach the 250-run mark. Tahlia McGrath was the pick of the bowlers for the home side as she returned for 3-45.

Australia thus took a 2-0 lead in the three-match WODI series with one game to spare. The third and final ODI of the series will be played on Sunday at the same venue.
