Australian Open 2021: Daniil Medvedev thrashes Rublev to secure semifinal berth- Fourth-seeded Daniil Medvedev has progressed to the semifinal of the Australian Open 2021 after his win over Andrey Rublev in quarterfinals. Medvedev defeated his counterpart 7-5, 6-3 and 6-2 that lasted for 125 minutes. The World No.4 will next face the winner of Rafael Nadal vs Stefanos Tsitsipas quarterfinal match.

Medvedev won 80 per cent of first serves and struck 14 aces to Rublev’s eight.

“It was one of the best matches I’ve played lately, not only here but even last year, this match is really unbelievable,” said Medvedev post-match.

“If we have a Russian final it’s just going to be a dream come true but we are going to have tough matches,” he added.

Daniil Medvedev and Aslan Karatsev have ensured two Russian men are through to the Australian Open semifinals for the very first time.

In earlier matches today, World No. 1 Ash Barty and Jessica Pegula crashed out of the Australian Open 2021 singles event.

Earlier on Tuesday, Serena Williams, Novak Djokovic, Naomi Osaka and Aslan Karatsev secured their berths in the semifinals of the Australian Open 2021. Williams,39, need one Grand Slam to equal Margaret Court– 24 Grand Slam titles (most in women’s singles).
