The 23-year-old defeated Williams in straight sets of 6-3, 6-4. She will next face the winner of Karolina Muchova and Jennifer Brady’s match later today.

With the loss, Serena’s bid to equal the record held by the Margaret Court (23 Grand Slams) has come to an end.
“It was a big error day for me today,” the 39-year-old told reporters after the match at Rod Laver Arena.
Williams breaks down in tears
Serena Williams broke down in tears after the loss in the semifinal round.
Asked if it was just a bad day at the office, Williams said: “I don’t know. I’m done,” before leaving the room in tears.
On the other hand, Osaka has won three Grand Slams (one Australian Open and two US Open titles). She is gearing up for her fourth Grand Slam.
