Ban vs SL 1st ODI: The series opener between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka in Shere Bangla National Stadium, Dhaka will go ahead after two of the three members from Sri Lanka contingent returned negative for Covid-19 in their second test. While Chaminda Vaas and Isuru Udana tested negative, Shiran Fernando is still positive ahead of the first of three ODI matches.

While the series is still on, for now, Sri Lanka’s medical team is unhappy with the bio-bubble aspect of the team. According to the ESPNCricinfo report, there are talks of bringing the team home.

Sri Lanka have played in four international series since December, but this is the first time members of a touring contingent have tested positive for Covid-19.

Ban vs SL 1st ODI Preview:

The first ODI was scheduled to begin at 12:30 pm. The Islanders have landed in Dhaka with some major changes to their squad. Kusal Perera will the side, while Kusal Mendis has been recalled as the vice-captain.

Sri Lanka cricket had decided to drop veterans like Dimth Karunaratne, Angelo Mathews and Dinesh Chandimal from the central contract in a bid to revamp and build a team for the 2023 World Cup.

Bangladesh, on the other hand, will be happy to have their star all-rounder Shakib-Al Hasan back on the team. He will most likely replace Najmul Hossain Shanto, who has been dropped from the Bangladesh squad for the first two ODIs.

The squad also excludes Al Amin Hossain, Hasan Mahmud, Rubel Hossain, and Nasum Ahmed, who were part of the New Zealand tour.

Both teams will be eyeing a series win to move up the ICC Cricket World Cup Super League table.
