BARC Data Week 13th : Without LIVE action, sports channels further loses steam

Sports genre audience ratings is falling week after week in the absence of Live action on the channels. The Coronavirus pandemic, which has taken nearly 200 countries under its grip worldwide, has led to cancellation of sports events all around and this has resulted in huge ratings and revenue loses for the sports broadcasters.

Broadcast Audience Research Council of India (BARC) ratings for week 13 (March 28 to 3rd April) for sports genre in India reveal up to 20% more erosion of the gross impressions for the top five most-watched channels for the week. Despite of all the programming push by Star Sports team the genre has failed to attract any response from the sports fans.

WWE Performance on Sony Pictures Network the most disappointing The most disappointing is the performance of WWE portfolio on Sony Pictures Network sports channels. Normally in the non Live Cricket days, WWE tends to dominate the rating charts. Leave aside LIVE cricket, currently no live action is on air and still WWE programming has failed to attract eyeballs.

As the table suggests, Star Sports First has emerged on the top as majority of sports audience has tuned in to watch the repeat shows and the highlights from the Indian Premier League 2019 season.
