Sports broadcast audience on Indian television has registered a major dip in the absence of any live quality content. Star Sports 1 Hindi has managed to hold its position as the number one channel of the week. However, gross impression on the Broadcast Audience Research Council television ratings have crashed to a mere 125,670,000 from 614,482,000 in the previous week.
The week 40 (September 29-October 5) ratings will leave any of the Top 5 sports genres channels disappointed.
In the nation obsessed with cricket, the absence of quality cricket between the India England Test has got little acceptance from the audience. Since, there is no other significant live content on air, India-West Indies Test live broadcast on Star Sports 1 Hindi has been the No. 1 sports genre show. However, there is a yawning gap between gross impressions over the previous week’s No. 1 show – the India-Pakistan Asia Cup Super-4 tie.
Indian Super League too has failed to make a major impression on television. The most-watch ISL match during the week – ATK vs North East United tie with a mere 7,06,000 impressions is the No. 5 show for the week.
The disappointment for the Indian sports lover, broadcasters and sports stakeholders is feared to continue unabated over the next couple of weeks when India-West Indies Test series happens to be the primary live sports content.
