Live broadcast of a cricket match has changed the power equation audience ratings for Indian television networks as Star Sports 1 Hindi emerges the most watched channel in the country across all genres.
India-Pakistan match at Old Trafford on June 16 has garnered 60% of the total ICC World Cup 2019 television audience in India, states Broadcast Audience Research Council of India (BARC).
The World Cup matches between May 30 and June 21 have attracted 381 million audience – the India-Pakistan game alone accounted for 229 million (45%) of these, whereas the India games have accounted for 321 million of the total TV ratings during the week.
The India-Pakistan match at the Old Trafford, Manchester, on June 16 has captured first three positions in the most watched sports genre channels’ list in the Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC) television audience ratings for Week 25 (June 14-21). Star Sports 1 Hindi tops the billing with 3,30,58,000 impressions, followed by Star Sports 2 and DD Sports. In the other two positions it is the mid-innings show after India had given Pakistan a daunting 337-run target to win the match.
For the second consecutive week, LIVE broadcast of a World Cup 2019 match involving the Bangladesh cricket team has been in the No. 5 position among the most watched sports genre shows in India.

Star Sports 1 Hindi gross impressions for the week have been up by over 50%, primarily on the strength of the India-Pakistan match. Star Sports 1 Hindi’s gross 1,18,67,83,000 impressions are the best ratings during the week for any television channel in India. Lesser interruption by rain over the week has also helped the channels broadcasting the World Cup 2019 live action gain significantly in viewership ratings.
DD Sports continues to benefit from Star Sports’ shared World Cup 2019 LIVE feed to hold the fourth position among the most-watched sports genre channels ahead of another free to air screen Star Sports First.

Ratings for next week will include two World Cup matches involving Team India. The intriguing duel with the Afghanistan, that has seen minnows of international cricket pushing one of the top title contenders to the back foot, and the duel against the West Indies today (Thursday) may further push up Star Sports 1 Hindi gross impressions. ICC World Cup 2019 and Star Sports 1 Hindi undoubtedly are poised to reign supreme in the Indian television sports genre ratings. SS 1 Hindi may further consolidate its top position across all channels.
