Pro Kabaddi League has signed as the Indian sports market leader in terms of the television audience. India’s absolute domination in the Ranchi Test from October 19-23 and the start of the Indian Super League as the elite professional club football competition have failed to match PKL in the Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC) television rating charts for week 43 between October 19 and 25.
The PKL final won by Bengal Warriors against Dabang Delhi sweeps all the top five positions for the most-watched sports genre programs for the week. LIVE broadcast of the Ranchi Test and none of the ISL games on six consecutive days between October 20 and 25 could even match the pre- and post-match shows for the PKL final.
LIVE broadcast of the PKL final on Star Sports First has been the most-watched sports program for the week with 54,09,000 gross impressions, more than 25% gain over the most-watched programs’ ratings last week. The simulcast of the game on Star Sports 1 Hindi with 53,43,000 impressions is in the second position, yet again over 25% more eyeballs for the position from the previous week. The remaining three positions are occupied by the pre-match build-up and post-match analysis LIVE shows.
Cricket and Indian Super League have failed to find the audience to justify their high billing, mega promotions, and huge investment.

There is no change in the most-watched sports channels position. Albeit, there is a considerable fall in gross impressions. Star Sports 1 Hindi, on the strength of PKL final coupled with the Ranchi Test and ISL LIVE action, has registered a considerable gain in gross impressions. However, Star Sports First in the second position has lost close to 30% eyeballs.
While Sony Ten 1, Star Sports 2 and Sony Ten 3 are placed from the third to fifth positions respectively with no significant change in their gross impressions for the week.

Week ahead will be a litmus test for the sports channels and Star Sports network when there is no international cricket involving Team India, PKL over and LIVE broadcast of the ISL will supposedly be the key rating driver.
