BARC Ratings: Star Sports First gains in a weak week for sports

No cricket in general means no significant ratings for sports broadcasters in India. In one such week, Star Sports First has been the only gainer, albeit marginally, as audience rating of other sports channels took a hit during Week 37 (September 6 to 12) on the Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC) of India television audience measurement charts.

On the most-watched sports shows’ list Star Sports 1 Hindi and PKL LIVE broadcast occupy four of the top five positions, with Star Sports First being the only other entrant – in the No. 4 position. LIVE broadcast of the Jaipur Pink Panthers close win over Patna Pirates in Kolkata on September 12 (Friday) remains the most-watched sports programme.

Live broadcast of the Jaipur-Patna tie on Star Sports 1 Hindi has topped the table with 33,38,000 impressions, with its simulcast on Star Sports First again finding a top five position on Star Sports First.

Star Sports 1 Hindi is poised to top the table next week on the strength of India’s emphatic win and Virat Kohli’s brilliant show with the willow in the second T20 International agaist the visiting Proteas at Mohali. The numbers could have swelled further, but for the total washout in the first game at Dharamshala on Sunday last.
