Star Sports has signed off the Indian Premier League with a grand ratings for the final. Even as sports genre in Week 20 (May 10-17) suffered a significant loss in gross impressions for the week, the final remained the most watched sports genre content in the Broadcast Audience Research Council television audience ratings for Week 20 (May 11 to 17).
The final won by Mumbai Indians off the last ball against Chennai Super Kings also turned out to be the most watched game of the IPL 2019 with 2,41,32,000 impressions – almost 40% higher than the most watched sports genre show for the previous week. But the gap between the No. 1 show and the other four positions in the top 5 chart is yawning. Though the top five sports genre programmes for the week all happened to be the content from the IPL final, including the pre- and post-match analysis.

IPL final also assured that Star Sports 1 Hindi remains the most-watched sports channel all through the league as pre- and post-match analysis shows on the channel added considerable eyeballs to the live broadcast of the final on May 12.
Star Sports 2 and Star Sports 1 received precious little traction from the IPL, allowing Star Sports First to jump to the No. 2 position with Sony Ten 1 making a comeback to the Top 5 most-watched sports channels’ list.

Star Sports and sports genre will have to wait for a couple of weeks for yet another high on the BARC ratings charts when the ICC World Cup 2019 data will come in for consideration. The action on Star Soft will star with the LIVE broadcast of customary warm-up games, beginning from May 24, Friday. The real action starts a week later when hosts England will take on South Africa in the tournament opener on May 30 at the Oval, London.
Week 21 (May 18-23) will be a real challenge for the sports genre when there is no significant LIVE content and news genre takes the centre stage with exit polls and the Lok Sabha election results on May 23.
