Star Sports continues to be the most-watched sports broadcast network in India with marginal gain for Star Sports 1 Hindi in gross impressions, even as there is a significant decline in the audience data for the most-watched sports programs in the Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC) sports genre television ratings for week 6 (February 8 to 14).
Live broadcast of the ICC World Cup Under-19 final, won by Bangladesh against India, has made it to the top 5 most-watched sports genre programs’ table, which otherwise only has the LIVE broadcast of the New Zealand-India One Day International series. Even the mid-innings live analysis of the second and third ODIs made the grade as the Kiwis completed a whitewash of the Virat Kohli-led Men in Blue in the three-match series

In spite of a weaker performance of LIVE cricket broadcast in BARC ratings, Star Sports Hindi as the number one channel has made almost 10% gain in gross impressions for the week. DD Sports, broadcasting shared feed from Star Sports 1, too has showed a symbolic improvement during the rating period.
There is no change in the position of the top five most-watched channels’ respective positions from the previous week, but Star Sport First, Star Sports 3 and Sony Ten, respectively No. 3 to 5, have all suffered major setbacks in terms of gross impressions.

The week ahead is going to be a challenging one for Star Sports. There will only be the opening day’s play of the first New Zealand-India Test as the key ratings driver for the sports genre. It will also be interesting to see how the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup, which starts on Saturday with the tie between hosts Australia and India, fares on television ratings charts.
