When there is no white ball cricket with Virat Kohli and his team in blue flannels, India’s own indigenous kabaddi continues to be the first choice of the sports content consumers in the country. For the fifth consecutive week, Pro Kabaddi League has topped the Broadcast Audience Research Council of India (BARC) television viewership ratings for sports genre.
Star Sports 1 Hindi remains the favourite screen for kabaddi fans in India as PKL matches’ live broadcast with Hindi commentary on the channel clean sweeps the five most watched sports genre programmes table. Tamil Thalaivas during the Chennai leg of the league have attracted most eyeballs on television.
Live Test cricket on the opening day of India’s inaugural match in the ICC Test Championship campaign finds no place in any of the top five most watched chart for Week 34 (August 17-23).

Star Sports First and Star Sports 1 Hindi for the second consecutive week are the top two most-watched sports channels for the week, courtesy PKL LIVE broadcast. Sony Ten 3 and Sony Ten in the third and fourth positions respectively have lost major eyeballs in spite of live broadcast of an intriguing Ashes series and the opening day of India’s first Test match between India and the West Indies.
Absence of live cricket content has also resulted in DD Sports elimination from the BARC top five most watched channels list with Star Sports 2 occupying the fifth position.
