Vivo Pro Kabaddi League for the first time during Season V has fallen out of the top five sports genre programmes’ chart. All five places in the Week 41 Broadcast Audience Research Council data chart for the most viewed shows on Indian sports channels belong to the India-Australia T20 series live broadcast and programming. The week from October 7 to 13 covers the three-match T-20 international series between India and Australia.
The India-Australia second T20 on October 10, Tuesday, on Star Sports 1 Hindi tops the audience data chart. The match registered 1,11,55,000 peak impressions. The Hindi broadcast of the first T20 with 10,404,000 impressions is placed second ahead of the English broadcasts of the second and the first T20 internationals respectively.
Interesting enough, the mid-show during the T20 series has fared better than any of the kabaddi matches during the week, or any of the FIFA Under-17 games.
Cricket has also helped Star Sports 1 Hindi consolidate its position atop the rating charts. Even as kabaddi has failed to stay ahead of much-fancied cricket, the Vivo Pro Kabaddi League broadcast has helped Star Sports First retain its stronghold on No. 2 position ahead of Star Sports 1, which broadcast the India-Australia series in English language.
Sony Ten 1 and Star Sports 2 stay in the fourth and fifth positions respectively in a week that has seen four of the top five channels, excepts Star Sports First, consolidating their positions by recording higher impressions in comparison to week 40.
The Week 42 between October 14 and 20 is likely to witness an intense battle for supremacy between the FIFA Under-17 World Cup finals and Vivo Pro Kabaddi League when there is no cricket to challenge the viewership of these two premier sporting events in the country.
