According to media reports, top Barcelona officials are in Paris for talks with the PSG management with an offer that includes $67 million (€60 mn/£ 55mn) and Philippe Coutinho in lieu of Neymar.
The proposal could be extended up to € 80 million (£74 million) with the possibility of adding Ivan Rakitic to the offer.
PSG well aware that Neymar is not keen on his future in the French top division league has played their game last Sunday without the Brazilian star. The club has been reluctant to accept the Barcelona deal for Neymar as the relations between the French and the Spanish club had soured ever since PSG had snatched him in a record £189 mn deal two years ago.
PSG reportedly are reluctant to do business with Barcelona and would rather sell him to Real Madrid. The Nou Camp chiefs are however optimistic as they headed to France on Tuesday for talks with Paris Saint-Germain. The club’s director for football, retired French international Eric Abidal, and two other top club officials few to Paris to meet with their Paris Saint-Germain counterparts, Catalan radio Ra c 1 and Catalan television TV3 reported.
“The breakthrough is significant as PSG had up until now refused to meet with Barcelona emissaries but it does not mean that the deal is close,” Rac1 wrote on its website.
The latest development comes after reports emerged that Lionel Messi has stepped in to attempt Neymar to complete his Barcelona return this summer rather than join Real Madrid.
It is no secret that the pair had a good relationship on the pitch, with Messi even attempting to persuade Neymar to reject PSG two years ago, and they have maintained contact since he left. Marca claim that Messi is desperate for Neymar to reject Madrid.
