The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has a surprise in store for everyone. The board, contrary to the speculation has decided to give one year contract extension to its Chief Executive Officer Rahul Johri. According to a report published in The Indian Express, the BCCI Apex Council also decided to extend its contract with Johri by one year. The Board’s CEO was completely out of action since last few months and had tendered his resignation in the month of February to the BCCI secretary Jay Shah.

The report further states that CEO’s contract was supposed to end in April. The board decided to extend Johri’s contract as many in BCCI felt that his expertise will be handy in dealing with the ICC according to the report.

InsideSport tried reaching out to Johri but failed to get any response. The board is also yet to make an official announcement on the contract extension.

In February BCCI CEO had tendered his resignation

Johri had tendered his resignation in the month of February. Speculation about Johri’s exit from the BCCI was rife after former board Chief Finance Officer Santosh Rangnekar had quit in the month of November 2019. It was reported that Johri had made up his mind to move on soon after the exit of the Supreme Court-appointed Committee of administrators (CoA).
BCCI sources said on Sunday that Johri, appointed in 2016 to the then newly-formed position, had made up his mind to step down after the Supreme Court-appointed Committee of Administrators (CoA) exited the scene in October last year, paving the way for the Sourav Ganguly-led team to take charge

Johri had joined the BCCI in 2016 as per the Lodha Committee recommendations.

Since assuming the office of CEO, Johri has been working on multiple fronts, playing a key role in selling the IPL broadcast rights to Star India for a whopping ₹16,348 crore. He was appointed when Shashank Manohar was BCCI President and Anurag Thakur was its secretary.
