The Board of Control for Cricket in India has floated a request for proposal “for the rights and obligations to stage the IPL opening show” – a 45-minute curtain raiser several hours before the 11th season of cricket world’s biggest league.
The opening ceremony, scheduled to start at 6.30 pm shortly before the season opener tie between defending champions Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings, will last for up to 45 minutes only.
The IPL governing council had originally planned a grand opening ceremony a day prior to the first match of the season. A budget of ₹50 crore has been sanctioned for the event that was to be held at the CCI ground in Mumbai. However, BCCI’s Committee of Administrators had rescheduled the event for the match day, reduced the budget to ₹30 crore and shifted the event venue to the Wankhede Stadium.
Since the opening ceremony will take place at the match venue, the event organising company shall have to ensure that the field of play at the Venue is entirely free of any event related acts, staff or infrastructure by 7:30 pm.

All the eight captains will sign the formal pledge “to play the game in the spirit of the game”. The event organising company will also have to provide a stage set and present a concept for the 8 captains to sign the pledge.
