Who will be the new sponsors for Team India after Star India? the BCCI will have to take a call on this soon as the current sponsorship deal with Star India is nearing its end. The forthcoming bilateral four Test match series between India and Australia will be the last series with Star India as the sponsor.
Star India, which won the bid in December 2013, has been paying Rs. 1.92 crore per match. The previous sponsor, Sahara India, paid the BCCI Rs. 3.34 crore per match towards the end of its 13-year run.
Star India’s commitment to the BCCI for the ICC events has been around Rs 60 lakh since the Indian team (and other teams) is now allowed to display the sponsor-brand logo in front of the shirt.
Star India’s deal covered the ICC Cricket World Cup in Australia and New Zealand in 2015 and also the ICC Twenty20 in India 2016.
The BCCI doesn’t float Invitation to Tender ( ITT) for its under-19 and women teams and use the Star India logo for these two teams also.
Presently the BCCI’s sponsors are: Star India (Team), STAR Sports (broadcaster), Paytm (title sponsor), Nike (Kit sponsor), Pepsi, Hyundai and Jana (official partners). The BCCI-IPL title sponsor is smart phone maker, Vivo.
It is not only sponsorship with Star India that is coming to an end. According to media reports , Team India’s apparel contract with Nike too comes to an end on March 2017 .
So, BCCI or for that matter the newly appointed panel by the Supreme Court as per the Lodha panel recommendations have plenty of issues to resolve soon .
