The Board of Control for Cricket in India has initiated the process for appointment of the Head Coach of Team India. Anil Kumble’s present term as the head coach will complete with the ICC Champions Trophy.
BCCI would like to call upon interested candidates to apply for the position of ‘Head Coach’ for Indian Cricket Team (Men). The process has been initiated since the term of the current coach, Mr Anil Kumble concludes with the Champions Trophy, read a BCCI Press Release.
Present Head Coach, Mr. Anil Kumble will be a direct entry for the process. To ensure a fair and completely transparent process, a nominee of the Committee of Administrators (CoA) will oversee the entire process along with the Cricket Advisory Committee.
BCCI is reportedly paying Anil Kumble Rs 6.25 crore per annum, which is Rs 75 lakh more than what Ravi Shastri charged as the cricket directors, but certainly much more than the fee paid to Gary Kirsten or Duncan Fletcher as head coaches of Team India. Kumble’s support staff now get Rs 1.5 crore each at Rs 15 lakh per month. Sport staff, whose salary is recently hiked by 50%, doesn’t get payment for the two-month IPL period.
The BCCI’s three-member Cricket Advisory Committee, comprising Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly and VVS Laxman, will conduct interviews and seek presentations to select the best possible candidate to guide the team and take Indian cricket forward.

Kumble, meanwhile, has strongly recommended Zaheer Khan’s name for the position of team India’s bowling coach. He also remains the strongest candidate to retain his position as Head Coach of the Indian cricket team. Earlier, there were also reports of Anil Kumble to be promoted as Director of team India a post held by Ravi Shastri and while Rahul Dravid taking over as the head coach for team India.
