Injeti Srinivas has been moved out of the most powerful bureaucratic positions in Indian sports – the Sports Secretary in the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports as well as the esteemed office of the Director General, Sports Authority of India.
Uttar Pradesh cadre IAS officer Rahul Bhatnagar will take charge of both the offices. Srinivas is shifted to the Corporate Affairs Ministry.
It will be Bhatnagar’s second stint with the sports ministry, where he had been a Joint Secretary during the 2010 Commonwealth Games. Bhatnagar had received the transfer orders and will be taking the charge of duel posts by the next week or Diwali vacations.
The 1983 batch IAS officer, Bhatnagar was playing a key role in the builder-home buyer impasse as the Greater Noida Development Authority chairman. He has been the Uttar Pradesh chief secretary when Akhilesh Yadav was the State Chief Minister in 2016.
Bhatnagar has also been a seasoned sports administrator. Other than serving the Union sports ministry as a joint secretary, the senior bureaucrat has also been a former Director General of National Anti-Doping Agency.
He was part of the sports ministry when corruption charges had hit the Delhi 2010 CWG. The CBI had later cleared all bureaucrats after investigating the corruption charges when senior Congress leader Suresh Kalmadi was booked for malpractices.
Srinivas was among the bureaucrats to have the longest stint with sports. He has been a joint secretary sports between 2007 and 2011 and had later held the dual offices of the secretary sports and DG, SAI.
