“Sachin: A Billion Dreams” hit the silver screens on Friday, May 26th. With all the glory and fan following, Sachin expected it to be a huge success. According to the makers, the docu-drama was able to collect around Rs 8.40 Crores on its opening day.
The film released worldwide in Hindi, Marathi, Tamil, Telugu and English.
“Sachin: A Billion Dreams creates history as docu-drama. Biggest opening in the genre with Rs 8.40 crore in India in all languages,” read a statement issued on behalf of the film’s makers.
According to trade analyst Taran Adarsh, it is an “impressive” opening for a film in this genre.
Looking at the hype that the movie created, the numbers are nothing compared to the biopic on MS Dhoni. The Dhoni biopic made its mark as the 2nd highest opener of 2016, after Salman Khan-starrer Sultan. MS Dhoni film’s friday collection stood at Rs 21.30 Cr.
Reviewing the biopic, Adarsh took to Twitter to share the collections and the status of the film. He tweeted, “#MSDhoniTheUntoldStory takes a THUNDEROUS start on Day 1… Emerges the 2nd HIGHEST OPENER of 2016… Fri ₹ 21.30 cr. India biz. #MSDhoniTheUntoldStory is the BIGGEST OPENER in the biopic genre… Sat and Sun biz should add to a FABULOUS total. India biz. #MSDhoniTheUntoldStory is the BIGGEST OPENER in the biopic genre… Sat and Sun biz should add to a FABULOUS total. India biz.”
Albeit, a documentary, the film was promoted and got much hype like any other Bollywood flick. The weekend performance and the overall collection will be the deciding factor, whether Sachin is able to fulfill the dreams of billion people through his movie or not.
