Biopics on sports personalities have been the flavour of Indian cinema. The Indian sports lovers now have a big one coming up- On the life and achievements of the “queen of the Indian track and field” – Pilavullakandi Thekkeparambil Usha popularly known as P. T. Usha and nicknamed ‘Payyoli Express’.
The 53-year old veteran, who currently runs Usha School of Athletics, has taken to social media on Sunday to confirm the news of a biopic on her. Glad to be a subject for a movie, Usha also revealed that the project will be multilingual and directed by the noted ad filmmaker, Revathy S Varmha.
To tap the wider audience around the globe, the film will be released in Hindi, English, Chinese, Russian, Malayalam and other Indian languages. The aim is to reach the massive fan base that PT Usha has established over the years.
The film is expected to trace the trials, tribulations and achievements of PT Usha since childhood, with a dose of many unknown tales of the super athlete’s life. The film will showcase all phases of her life right from her younger days to becoming an athletics icon to motherhood and a coach now.
The post on the social media also revealed that the storyline for the biopic is being scripted by Dr. Sajish M. Jayalal Menon, Backwater Studios along with a major Hollywood Studio will produce the biopic.
The star cast of the biopic is yet to be revealed.
However, there were reports in the past that director Revathy is keen to star Priyanka Chopra to portray the Olympian on screen. While Piggy Chops remains the first interest of the director, another Bollywood actress, Sonam Kapoor has also reportedly expressed her interest for the role.
The reports also mentioned that the project is expected to be a heavy-duty film, with production cost surmounting approximately 100 crore. With such a whopping budget and expected star cast, the film appears to be as grand spectacle as is the life of the Padma Shri recepient and Arjuna awardee.
