Jasprit Bumrah for the first time has revealed the identity of the man who has been behind his phenomenal success for India.
Every great success story starts with a moment of discovery, and a mentor who makes it happen. In Jasprit Bumrah’s case, the mentor was none other than Mumbai Indians coach John Wright. Wright dropped by at a Syed Mushtaq Ali trophy game where Bumrah was playing for Gujarat against Mumbai. The interesting bit is, he wasn’t even there to watch Bumrah. He had instead come to watch some young guys on the Mumbai team who were already in the Mumbai Indians squad.
The rest, as they say, is history. Bumrah got picked up for the Mumbai Indians squad as a fresh-faced, naive 19-year old. But that’s not the only reason why Bumrah credits Wright with shaping him into the cricketer he is. Wright also taught the novice bowler that it wasn’t just his bowling skill that would make him a force to reckon with. From his fitness to his diet to his professionalism— Wright made the cricketer in him come alive.
In a candid chat with cricbuzz show Spicy Pitch, Bumrah opens up about various aspects of his cricketing journey.
This is just one of many unique stories that Bumrah reveals in a no-holds-barred 20-minute interview as part of Cricbuzz’s new show “Spicy Pitch”. Bumrah touches upon almost every aspect of his life — from his early days as a young boy playing tennis ball cricket to his extremely special relationship with his mother, to how he has been able to succeed at the game at the highest level. In a country where cricket and Bollywood are the two religions born in the 21st century, this interview definitely brings fans several steps closer to understanding their favorite pace bowler.
The Jasprit Bumrah episode is the second one in the series and you can watch it on the Cricbuzz website, it’s social media channels and on MX Player from this Saturday (22nd February).
