Saina Nehwal can be seen campaigning for the Bharatiya Janata Party for the Delhi Assembly elections. The London Olympic Games bronze medallist has reportedly joined the BJP today.
“I have won medals for the country. I am very hardworking and I love hardworking persons. I can see Prime Minister Narendra Modi does so much for the country, I want to do something for the country with him,” the shuttler said.
“I draw a lot of inspiration from Narendra sir”.
The Haryana-born and Hyderabad-based Saina is the first Indian badminton player to bag an Olympic medal and the N0. 1 BWF ranking.
BJP has got a number of prominent sports personalities in its top cadre. Just before the Parliamentary elections last year, former India opener Gautam Gambhir had joined the party and won the East Delhi Lok Sabha seat.
BJP had also fielded ace wrestlers Yogeshwar Dutt and Sakshi Malik and former Indian hockey team captain Sandeep Singh in the Haryana Assembly elections. Sandeep, the only one among the trio to get a favourable verdict. He is the Sports Minister in Haryana.
Saina’s inclination towards the ruling party in the Centre has been evident for a while now as she had been actively sharing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s posts and hailing him.
Saina was also trolled on Twitter with screenshots of the identical tweets posted by several other sportspersons. She was also among the sportswomen who put up identical tweets on Diwali thanking PM Modi for his initiative to empower women, with the hashtag #bharatkilaxmi.
