Carolina Marin – the most renowned Spanish face with Indian sports lovers is now the brand ambassador to promote Spain’s premier division soccer league – La Liga – in the country. The Olympic champion is a regular on Indian badminton circuit and spends almost month and a half in India every year to participate in international tournaments and India’s own badminton league. The 23-year-old is in Delhi for the India Open Super Series. She has already been a part of meet and greet event to promote La Liga.
La Liga had run a contest on twitter and facebook, where fans were asked to answer two simple questions about Marin and La Liga. Which Indian Player did Carolina Marin beat in the 2016 Rio Olympic badminton finals? Which is your favourite La Liga team? An opportunity to meet the Olympic champion was the award for the winner.
Earlier last month, La Liga cheif Javier Tebas had unveiled the sponsorship deal that the institution has signed with Marin and figure skater Javier Fernandez. Marin, along with Sanchez, will be flying the flag for Spanish football all over the world, as part of La Liga’s efforts to boost the visibility and profile of Spanish sport.
Tebas was quoted as saying: “There are many places across the planet where we’re not as well-known as they are, so they’re going to play a key role in helping us to expand the LaLiga brand. This is a bilateral deal through which we will grow hand in hand and we’re thrilled to have them on board to represent us in places where they are more popular even than our great clubs.”
Marin, the current Olympic, European and world badminton champion, was enthused about what linking up with La Liga means to her. “I’ve got a lot to offer in terms of La Liga’s expansion because badminton is the biggest sport in [many parts of] Asia and it’ll be a pleasure to work with this brand there. I’m sure that teaming up with La Liga and LaLiga4Sports is going to bring us some great experiences. I’m very grateful to La Liga and the CSD for this agreement. It’ll be an honour and a pleasure to promote values like passion, dedication and effort with them,” Marin says.
La Liga, as its promotional plans for India, had started its office in New Delhi with Spanish Davis Cup team, Rafa Nadal, David Ferrer, Fliciano Lopez, Marc Lopez and coach Conchita Martinez were in attendance.
Sony TV are the La Liga broadcast partners for India. Sony has also launched a promotional campaign for La Liga last year, saying it’s not football; it’s war.
