English is the atmosphere in Madrid as two Premier League sides Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur will battle it out for one of European football’s most prestigious crowns – UEFA Champions League title.
There are more similarities between the rivals than being the Premier League sides. The teams are closely matched. The managers are similar in their ideologies and the recent trajectory of both clubs so alike.
Liverpool, despite being edged by Spurs 2-1 in both of their Premier League encounters this season, remain fans favourite to lift the UEFA Champions Trophy tonight with a majority 70% backing the Five-time champions. The winners of UEFA Cup/UEFA Europa League in 1972, 1984 and Cup Winners’ Cup in 1963 will be gunning for their maiden European Cup title.
If Spurs succeed, they will become only the sixth club to have each of the European Champions Clubs crown – UEFA Cup/UEFA Europa League and European Cup Winners’ Cup.
The Spurs, the 40th club to reach the European Cup final and the first since Chelsea made the grade in 2008, could become the 23rd side to win the European Cup.
