Chennai Super Kings are keen for returning to the Indian Premier League with their “core, which has been the fabric of the team”.
The India Cement-owned franchisee has initiated talks with the support staff. For players, the franchisee management is awaiting guidelines from the BCCI.
The team has initiated talks with Mike Hussey and Stephen Fleming. “We have had fruitful talks with Mike Hussey when he was here (in Chennai) for the Tamil Nadu Premier League. Nothing is finalized yet, but we are optimistic not just about Hussey, who had been a key member of our squad, but also Stephen Fleming,” Chennai Super Kings director George John confirmed to insidesport.co. “To get our core team together will be the first choice. Not just coaches, but the trainers, the physio, all who have been part of the team.”
“CSK is extremely keen to reestablish continuity. We have initiated discussions and made good progress with the team staff members. CSK also wants to get its playing squad together. But we have no control over that,” said George. “We would like to have Dhoni and all our players. But, no process can start before we get clear guidelines from BCCI.”
IPL media rights auction is the top priority for the board officials at this stage. The CSK management is expecting that after completion of media rights bid process in the first week of September, the franchisees should get some clearance on player recruitment.
“We don’t even know anything about the marquee player process. There can be many new directives. We will not speculate at this stage,” George said.
Former CSK skipper MS Dhoni had welcomed team’s comeback to the IPL fold. “That shows the relationship between the players and the team, which has also been able to retain its strong fan base and ties with corporate associates.
The franchisee is also working tech front to strengthen its fan base. CSK has made Tekplay Systems its technology partner. The digital business transformation company will build the CSK 2.0 digital platform.
The CSK authorities have also initiated sales and marketing activities. The Yellow Brigade has had one of the best creative campaigns among the IPL teams. CSK management has set in force the process for its new creative campaign.
