LPL 2020: It was the Colombo Kings who came out on top in the 4th match of the Lanka Premier League. Andre Russell opened the innings for the Kings and scored a massive unbeaten 65 from just 19 balls.
Shahid Afridi’s Galle Gladiators won the toss and decided to ball first. The first over was a costly one for the Gladiators as Mohammad Amir gave away 26 runs which included 2 extras. All the runs were scored by Andre Russell.
Asitha Fernando was given the ball in the 2nd over. He got Thikshila de Silva out but could not stop Russel from scoring. It was another expensive over for the Gladiators as Fernando gave away 26 runs.
LJ Evans assisted Russell as he scored 21 off 10 balls. The Colombo Kings left a massive target of 97 runs for the Galle Gladiators to chase. It was a very poor display of bowling from Mohammad Amir as he gave away 46 runs in 2 overs.
The Galle Gladiators got off to a steady start. Their opener MD Gunathilaka stayed not out, making 30 runs off 15 balls. It was SMA Priyanjan who took the first wicket of Hazratullah Zazai in his only over.
Shahid Afridi was sent back to the pavilion by Qais Ahmad in the last over. He made 12 off 6 balls. From there on, it was an impossible chase. The Gladiators required 46 runs from 6 balls.
The Colombo Kings won the match by 34 runs. They now sit on the top of the table having 2 wins out of 2. It was the 2nd loss for the Galle Gladiators and now they see themselves at the bottom of the table with the Kandy Tuskers.
