COVID-19: The Hindu shuts down Sportstar print edition

The Hindu Group has suspended the print edition of its weekly sports magazine Sportstar amidst rising threat of Coronavirus pandemic. The magazine will however be available online.

The publication in a tweeted message has confirmed that the digital edition of India’s leading sports magazine will be available for download at no cost.

“Dear readers, For the first time in nearly 43 years, we are putting our print issue on hold until at least April 15. However, we will be offering a free downloadable version of the current and upcoming issue on our website. #StayIndoors,” reads the message on magazine’s twitter handle @sportstarweb.

Without saying in these many words, the tweet also confirms that the decision is influenced by the countrywide lockdown to break the chain of the COVID-19 virus spread.

The publication has also urged the people to stay indoors.  In a message to educate masses about maintaining distance, the tweet is accompanied by a creative which has five Olympics editions de-interlocked and placed at a distance from each other.

The decision is taken as the news magazine stalls will all remain shut during the three-week countrywide lockdown.
