St. Kitts & Nevis Patriots and Trinbago Knight Riders are two wins away from a berth in the Caribbean Premier League 2019 final. What they cannot afford at this stage is a defeat.
The teams in the first eliminator, to follow the qualifier between table toppers Guyana Amazing Warriors and Barbados Tridents, will be going all guns blazing. The winner gets the opportunity to play the semi-final against the loser of the Qualifier 1. The loser will fly home from Guyana.
St Kitts & Nevis Patriots have made the grade with five wins from ten outings, just missing out on the second spot and opportunity to play the qualifier due to poorer run rate than Barbados Tridents, who too have aggregated ten points from five wins.
For the Trinbago Knight Riders, a washed out game meant that they had to finish the league stage with nine points after four wins.
The Shah Rukh Khan co-owned franchisee will take a lot of positive from the fact that they had started their CPL campaign with a win over the Patriots, winning the tournament opener at home by 11 runs. Their away game against the Patriots had turned out to be the most exciting one, when St Kitts & Nevis had won after forcing the match into the Super Over after chasing the Knights’ 216 in allotted 20 overs.
Knights skipper Lendl Simmons has been the top scorer of the tournament with 378 runs. With Kieron Pollard also chipping in with 300 runs, Knight Riders is the only team to have two batsmen who have aggregated 300 or more runs this season. St Kitts will be looking up to E Lewis, LJ Evans and FA Allen to deliver with the bat.
Among the bowlers, SS Cottrell (11 wkts), RR Emrit (11) and AS Joseph (8) have been the top performers for St Kitts and Nevis Patriots. James Neeshan (11 wkts), K Pierre (8) will be spearheading the TKR attack.
