CSK vs DC, IPL 2021: 5 Dream matchups to watch out for: After a mouthwatering opening clash of IPL 2021, MS Dhoni’s Chennai Super Kings (CSK) will take on IPL 2020 runners up Delhi Capitals (DC) on April 10.

Top players MS Dhoni, Rishabh Pant, Shikhar Dhawan, Prithvi Shaw, Sam Curran, Marcus Stoinis, Dwayne Bravo & Steve Smith will be in action. Let’s take a look at 5 dream matchups that can pan out in the CSK vs DC match.

MS Dhoni vs Rishabh Pant

It will be a battle between ‘young apprentice and his master’ when Rishabh Pant’s Delhi Capitals and Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s Chennai Super Kings square off each other in an IPL 2021 second match on Saturday, with both sides aiming for a winning start to their campaign.

Captain Pant, a hard-hitting batsman, is in the form of his life, having emerged as a match-winner for India in the series against Australia and England. He would like to continue his good run.

On the other hand, three-time champions CSK had a forgettable season last year, finishing at seventh out of eight teams and MS Dhoni would be seeking a winning start in their bid to make amends for a poor IPL 2020.

Marcus Stoinis-Sam Curran

Sam Curran has been a revelation for the Chennai Super Kings and was the only highlight in an otherwise forgettable outing for the franchise in IPL 2020. While CSK finished at 7th in IPL 2020, Sam Curran’s performance was the silver linings and the England all-rounder would be hopung to emulate his form once again. Capable of causing destruction both with the bat and the ball, Curran will be an integral cog if CSK has to find success this season.

On the other hand, for Delhi Capitals Marcus Stoinis was the gamechanger and one of the key factors for DC making the finals in IPL 2020. Marcus Stoinis belongs to that rare breed of cricketers who can bat anywhere in the batting order, bowl useful overs, both at the start and the end of a T20 innings and is a gun fielder. Stoinis’ ability to play a 15-20 ball cameo in the middle can once again come in handy and provide that extra edge to Rishabh Pant’s men.

Ruturaj Gaikwad- Prithvi Shaw

Gaikwad had a rollercoaster debut IPL. From testing positive for Covid-19 to getting dismissed for a duck on debut, to scoring three consecutive fifties in the final three matches of the season, the young Pune-born had seen it all. Interestingly, his historic successive half-centuries came as an opener. Therefore, it will be likely that he will be one half of CSK’s opening pair.

On the other hand, Shaw will be itching to prove his worth after amassing 827 runs in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. It is most likely that Shaw and Dhawan would open.

Faf du Plessis vs Steve Smith

Faf was inarguably CSK’s best batsman last year. The only consistent player in the yellow jersey, he amassed 449 runs with his highest 87 coming as an opener. However, it was at No.3 where the Proteas actually faired well. In the starting three games, he scored impressive 173 runs which included two half-centuries.

Ex-Rajasthan Royals skipper Steve Smith’s addition has bolstered the Delhi Capitals lineup. A No.3 batsman and now with captaincy duties relieved, Smith can focus completely on his batting. While Smith does take a little time to  accelarate, the right-hander on his day keeps the ability to single-handedly decimate a bowling lineup.

Ravindra Jadeja vs Ravichandran Ashwin
Teammates once, Ashwin and Jadeja are once again going to be on opposite sides of the contest. While both the players are masters in their craft, everytime they are pitted against each other it promises and intriguing battle.
Jadeja’s ability to quickly change the fate of the game with a cameo of his matchwinning prowess is unmatachable. With the ball too, Jadeja is clinical stemming the flow of runs and providing crucial breaks in crunch situations.
On the other hand, Ashwin is the go-to bowler everytime DC needs to find a breakthrough. A witty bowler who can make batsmen dance to his tune, Ashwin can come in handy down the order with the willow as well.
