CSK vs KKR in IPL 2021: Ruturaj Gaikwad gives befitting reply to critics, slams 64 after Fleming’s backing- Chennai Super Kings opening batsman Ruturaj Gaikwad has finally delivered in IPL 2021. In his fourth innings, Gaikwad scored 64 against Kolkata Knight Riders to provide a cracking start to CSK. He also shared a fifty-plus partnership with Faf du Plessis. In the previous matches, Gaikwad failed to do well and got caught out thrice in a similar fashion.
Ruturaj Gaikwad on his performance
“(Enjoyed it) Very much. First three games I did not get a good start and thankfully I got a start today. When you have such experienced players in the dressing room, it makes your job easy. To be honest nothing much, they just kept backing me and even that small innings in the last game they found some positives. They knew there were 1-2 good deliveries, the confidence was always there and when other players came up to have a chat, it feels really good. This is the same attitude and same intensity (I carry in every game).”
IPL 2021: Stephen Fleming: ‘We’ll continue to back Ruturaj Gaikwad’ despite consecutive failures
CSK head coach Stephen Fleming came up with a big statement in press conference on Monday post win over Rajasthan Royals. He said that Ruturaj Gaikwad will continue to be backed by CSK.
“Yeah, he (Robin Uthappa) is waiting and Ruturaj has a little bit of time. Last year with the way he played. You know our philosophy, we give our players a good run. What they want to try and do is that the intent is there, the timing is great. We’ll continue to back him. We’ll make a decision to change at some point. We discuss it pretty hard but at the moment backing a good young player,” Fleming said.

Why CSK chose Ruturaj Gaikwad in IPL 2021?
CSK relied on Ruturaj Gaikwad for opening in IPL 2021 after his promising batting performance in IPL 2020 (in Dubai). The right-handed batsman had scored 204 in 6 innings at an average of 51, which included three half-centuries.
The right-handed batsman is playing ahead of Robin Uthappa in the CSK lineup. He was transferred to MS Dhoni’s squad from Rajasthan Royals for Rs 3 crore ahead of IPL 2021 auction. The development came after their ace opening batsman Shane Watson announced retirement from all forms of cricket.
