Rajat Sharma is facing another revolt in the Delhi and District Cricket Association. This time it is a majority of ten out of the 16 DDCA directors who have formally resolved to withdraw all the powers of the president.
This is the first instance that Rajat Sharma has lost majority support in the DDCA Board as powers are now joining hands with secretary Vinody Tihara, whom the president has been trying to remove ever since the two were elected to the office from the same panel.
Insidesport.co is in possession of the board resolution. “Resolved that powers to the president that was accorded to him on 02/07/2018 by the Board of Directors for day to day running of affairs is withdrawn and all the decisions will be taken by the apex council. We further resolve that we passed this resolution by circulation considering the urgency of the matter and may be placed at the next apex council for taking note of,” reads the resolution.
The document is signed by Rakesh Bansal, Vinod Tihara, Rajan Manchanda, Renu Khanna, Sanjay Bhardwaj, Alok Mittal, Apurv Jain, Nitin Gupta, SN Sharma and Sudhir Agarwal. The Government nominee in the board, Gautam Gambhir has not signed the resolution.
Bansal and Manchanda had stood by the DDCA president in the bid to suspend Tihara from the office of the DDCA secretary. Tihara, however, had obtained court orders against the suspension and continues to hold his office.
A voice of dissent against Sharma was first raised by the DDCA Cricket Director Sanjay Bhardwaj, who had gone on an indefinite hunger strike in August last year against the dictatorial attitude and functioning of the DDCA president. “Finally a majority in the DDCA has realised what we (Bhardwaj and secretary Vinod Tihara) have been saying. The move is in the best interest of the game and the DDCA. This vindicates our stand,” says Bhardwaj.
Meanwhile, the board has also resolved to “terminate” DDCA COO GR Saxena with immediate effect. “The services of COO Sh GR Saxena be terminated with immediate effect from today (Monday) and his dues may be settled as per contract. All the legal formalities be completed to give effect to this resolution. Henceforth, the work of COO Sh GR Saxena shall be looked after by CFO She PC Vaish till further instructions in addition to his own duties. He shall not be entitled to receive any extra remuneration for this,” read the resolution passed to remove the COO.
The DDCA is registered as a company with the Registrar of Companies. The constitution makes the Board of Directors DDCA’s main decision making body. With a majority of the directors resolving against him, the DDCA president might find it difficult to run his office smoothly.
Sharma, however, has the option of legally challenging the sanctity of the resolution.
InsideSport.co had written to the DDCA president for his response, which shall be publishes as and when it is received.
