The news that the Saina Nehwal biopic featuring Shraddha Kapoor has been shelved indefinitely is followed by some consolation for the London Olympic games medallist shuttler.
A section of media has reported that Deepika Padukone is tipped to replace Shraddha for the lead role. Deccan Chronicle had reported quoting sources that the producers are keen on having “heftier star power.”
However, insidesport.co has learnt that Shraddha has not been able to give enough time for training to master the moves for justifying Saina’s skills on screen. Insidesport.co has also learnt that the Saina camp was always keen to have Deepika in the lead role.
Insidesport.co has earlier reported that Shraddha was training in Mumbai to polish badminton skills.
“It (the biopic) needs a heftier star-power. The producers are apparently trying to re-cast the project with Deepika Padukone in the lead. Her father was a badminton champ and she plays the game pretty well herself,” media reports state quoting sources close to the producers.
The film will depict Saina’s journey from a child prodigy from Haryana to India’s first Olympic medalist in badminton, and beyond. There will also be a dose of masala, the elementary aspect of an Indian celluloid recipe.
Deepika, daughter of badminton legend and former All England Champion Prakash Padukone, has been a national level junior level player herself. Her basics about the sport are clear to match Saina’s own court moves even though Shraddha matched the champion shutter better in height and appearance.
