The Baichung Bhutia Football School (BBFS) with its 50th centre has also announced an angel investment by the promoters of the CarWale & Chalo and Zomato.

The Bhaichung Bhutia’s Talent Invigoration & Sports Management (TALISMAN), parent organization of Bhaichung Bhutia Football Schools, has announced the latest addition of Sahil Barua and other co-founders of Delhivery in its list of angel investors.

This funding is in addition to initial equity-based fundraise of TALISMAN by Priya Singh and Mohit Dubey, Founder, CarWale & Chalo; and Pankaj Chaddha, Co-founder, Zomato, who had recently invested an undisclosed amount in TALISMAN.

The investment is primarily aimed at bolstering TALISMAN’s status as the largest sports talent development organization in the country and consolidating its technology infrastructure to prepare for international expansion.

TALISMAN announced the opening of its 50th center in the country earlier this month.

“BBFS has had an incredible journey so far. However, there is still a huge amount of work that needs to be done to develop football at the grassroots level in India and Asia. We thank our partners for their support and welcome them wholeheartedly to the BBFS family,” said former Indiana football  team captain and TALISMAN co-founder Bhaichung Bhutia.

The investment round also coincides with the return of Kishore Taid as Co-founder and CEO of TALISMAN, after a 3-year stint as COO of the All India Football Federation (AIFF). Kishore, an alumnus of IIT Delhi and IIM Ahmedabad had co-founded TALISMAN in 2010 along with Bhaichung Bhutia and Anurag Khilnani.

Priya Singh Dubey, Founder, CarWale & Chalo, who joins the board of TALISMAN commented, “Both Mohit and I were encouraged to see the organizational culture and discipline at BBFS. They have been able to build a strong foundation across multiple cities and have the potential to revolutionize the football culture in the country especially among children.”

Adding to this Pankaj Chaddah, Co-founder, Zomato said, “We are extremely happy to be a part of the BBFS team. The sheer volume and sustained quality of efforts that BBFS has put into developing the sport on a daily basis is impressive. Not many have been able to crack a financially viable model for developing grassroots sports at such a scale.”

Sahil Barua co-founder, Delhivery, added “We have all come together to be part of a unique story which is not only a business success but also contributes hugely to the health and fitness of our future generations.”

An elated Kishore Taid Co-founder & CEO, TALISMAN said, “We are very fortunate to have a team of such elite and successful entrepreneurs to guide us in our quest to revolutionize grassroots sports in India. Our vision is to bring world-class coaching to every interested kid in the region and this investment is a big push in that direction.”

Founded in 2010 to solve the problem of lack of professional football coaching for children, TALISMAN currently runs 50 football academies across 18 cities in India under the banner of Bhaichung Bhutia Football Schools. Over the past decade over 4000 families and 10000 children have joined the BBFS fraternity as students, coaches and patrons.
