Mahendra Singh Dhoni, in spite of being out of action ever since India’s exit from the ICC World Cup 2019, has been the most searched Indian sportsperson for the year on Yahoo.
Proverb out of sight, out of mind might just not apply to Dhoni. The dynamic cricketer has been catching the imagination of the nation as he joined Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Priyanka Chopra Jonas as Yahoo’s ‘Most Searched Personality’ of the year.
Yahoo India has announced the 2019 Year in Review (YIR) for India to offer a definitive look at the year’s top trends, happenings and events, based on users’ daily search habits and an editorial selection of what they read, recommended and shared most on Yahoo.
Among the most searched sportspersons of the year, skipper Virat Kohli figures in the second position followed by his deputy in the One Day and T20 International teams Rohit Sharma.
Badminton ace PV Sindhu, in spite of an inconsistent year on the Badminton World Federation tournaments circuit, is the only non-cricketer in the elite sportspersons list.
Kohli, however, was ahead of Dhoni when Yahoo had released the list of the Top 10 Most Influential Personalities in Sports in the month of August. Dhoni and Rohit were respectively in the No. 2 and No. 3 positions.
The other in the top ten list then included Chief coach of the Indian national cricket team Ravi Shastri, Sachin Tendulkar, Sindhu, Indian women cricket team’s limited overs captain Harmanpreet Kaur, all-rounder Hardik Pandya, national football team captain Sunil Chhetri and the London Olympic Games medallist veteran shuttler Saina Nehwal in the 10th position.
