Hotstar is celebrating the launch of the Disney+ with the premier of a bunch of new content on the eve of the grand transformation of Star’s streaming service, slated for Friday, April 3.
The new streaming app is a collaboration of Diney+, the streaming platform of the Walt Disney Company, and Hotstar, the streaming platform owned by the Star India Pvt Ltd which has been operating in India for many years. Star India is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Walt Disney Company India. Internationally, Disney+ was launched in November of 2019.
To mark the launch of DIsney+ Hotstar, Hotstar on Thursday evening premiered a bunch of new content today (Thursday), a day prior to the launch. Hotstar is premiering The Lion King. It will also premier the Star Wars spin-off web-series The Mandalorian. In addition to these premiers, Hotstar users will also be able to chat with actors Hrithik Roshan, Katrina Kaif and Tiger Shroff during the premiers.
Earlier, Hotstar had operated on two plans – VIP and Premium. The VIP plan was priced at ₹365 per year. The Premium plan was charged at a monthly fee of ₹299 per month. The premium plan could also be purchased at ₹999 per year. With the introduction of Disney+ Hotstar, the prices of the plans have increased. The annual VIP and Premium plans will be available at ₹399 and ₹1,499 respectively. Users who were already subscribed to these plans before April 3 won’t have pay extra once Disney+ content is added.
