India’s young wrestling icon Divya Kakran has been nominated for the prestigious Rani Laxmi Bai Sports Award.
The award includes a citation, a bronze statue of Rani Laxmi Bai and a cheque of ₹ 3,11,000. A sportsperson must represent the State of Uttar Pradesh for at least three years to qualify for the prestigious Rani Laxmi Bai Award (for women) and the Laxman Award for the men.
“I am excited to be nominated for the honour. I have always contributed to the State and given my best to bring laurels to the country,” said Divya. “The recognition has strengthened my resolve and given me additional confidence to bring more pride to my country and the State.”
The 20-year-old Diva has over 60 titles – including the 2017 Commonwealth Championships gold, 2018 Asian and Commonwealth Games bronze and the 2017 Delhi Asian Championships silver – in her closet. The teen, who trains in Delhi and represents Uttar Pradesh in domestic competitions, is an eight-time Bharat Kesari.
Divya will become the third wrestler to be honoured with the Rani Laxmi Bai award after Priyanka Singh (2015-16) and Anshu Tomar (2014-15).
