ENG vs SL: Niroshan Dickwella, Kusal Mendis & Danushka Gunathilaka were caught breaching bio-bubble in Durham – The Sri Lanka Cricket board has suspended three Lankan cricketers — Niroshan Dickwella and Kusal Mendis and Danushka Gunathilaka — for breaching COVID-19 bio-bubble restrictions in Durham, England. The three cricketers in England to play two limited-overs series were caught roaming on Durham streets, breaching COVID-19 protocols after their embarrassing loss in the T20I series. They will be sent home.
“Sri Lanka Cricket executive committee has suspended Kusal Mendis, Danushka Gunathilaka & Niroshan Dickwella for breaching the bio-bubble and they will be immediately recalled to Sri Lanka,” SLC secretary Mohan De Silva said in a statement.
The decision to recall the players was taken by the Executive Committee of Sri Lanka Cricket, based on the ‘Manager’s Report’ on the matter.
The three players will be suspended, from all forms of cricket, until the completion of the inquiry

The three Lankan cricketers were caught on camera smoking in Durham on Sunday night by passersby who shared the video on social media platforms. The Kusal Perera-led side is under fire for poor performance and contract dispute with Sri Lankan Cricket board.

ENG vs SL: In the video that was shot at around 11.30 PM on Sunday, Kusal Mendis was seen with a cigarette in his hand while not wearing a mask. Niroshan Dickwella was the other cricketer with him. Soon, Danushka Gunathilaka joined the two.
The ENG vs Sri Lanka series has come under the scanner after ICC Match Referee Phil Whitticase for the 3rd T20I match tested positive for COVID-19. While no players from either side returned positive test, the English and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has been forced to replace the entire pool of match officials for the 1st ODI as many of them have been close contacts.
ENG vs SL: Kusal Perera & Co are currently in a bio-bubble in England and are not allowed to step outside the hotel for anything other than practice. With their bio-bubble breach, they might have compromised the safety of the bubble and it could force the ECB to take action ahead of the 1st ODI in Durham.
Earlier, Sri Lanka Cricket launched an investigation into the players for the alleged breach after the video started circulating on social media. SLC chief Shammi Silva said, “an investigation is underway as they have breached the (code of) conduct,” reacting to a video posted by a fan.
ENG vs SL: The Sri Lankan cricketers have come under fire from fans for a string of poor performance. After their loss to Bangladesh and the T20I series loss to England, Lankan fans took to social media platforms and criticized the team’s performance.
Many cricket fans have taken to social media to criticise the behaviour of the cricketers at a time when they have lost all T20I matches against England.
“Familiar faces in Durham tonight, enjoying their tour! Obviously not here to play cricket, this video was taken at 23.28 Sunday. Disappointing performance by these cricket players but not forgetting to enjoy their night at Durham,” a Lankan fan posted, sharing the video.
No care of bio-bubble breach, doesn’t seem like a humiliating 3-0 loss is in their mind. With this behavior & kind of performance shown, they want higher pay & are refusing to sign 🤦♂️ what’s been offered itself is a lot of money for these good for nothing players. @RajapaksaNamal

“Many Sri Lankan fans are excited to support the Sri Lankan team on Tuesday at Durham and have made plans to travel across England to watch the game. But unfortunately, these clowns are NOT here to serve the Sri Lanka cricket and the fans,” another fan said.
