ENG W vs IND W: Shafali Verma creates a plethora of records in her maiden Test innings- India’s new batting sensation Shafali Verma might have missed out a century but it did not stop her from achieving numerous. She has created multiple records in her maiden Test knock. Notably, Shafali slammed 96 runs off 152 balls which included 13 fours and a couple of sixes. The 17-year-old did show enough intensity and grit as she walked out to bat for the first in Test cricket. Known for her power batting, she played a slow inning and showed she can easily adjust to the different formats of the game.

In Women’s Test cricket, only three players have managed to hit two sixes in an innings. – Alyssa Jean Healy (Aus-W) in 2017 – Lauren Winfield-Hill (Eng-W) & today Shafali Varma. One more six from Verma could have made it the most sixes in an innings in Test Women’s cricket.

ENG W vs IND W: Shafali Varma’s is now the highest by an Indian debutant in Women’s Test cricket. The previous highest was the 75 by Chanderkanta Kaul (née Aheer) against New Zealand at Nelson in Feb 1995.

Fifty on Test debut for Shafali Verma. Ninth Indian to achieve this feat. The last Indian Woman to hit a fifty on Test debut: Shafali’s current opening partner: Smriti Mandhana v England at Wormsley in 2014.

India’s Shafali Verma (17y-140d) is now the second-youngest woman to make a 50 on Test debut. South African Johmari Logtenberg (74) is the youngest at 14y-166 vs England at Shenley in 2003. Overall Verma is the 4th youngest to make a 50 in Women’s Test.
