We at Inside sport will take you through the top five records that Shafali Verma can break in her ODI debut.
Fastest century in Women’s ODI
New Zealand’s Sophie Devine holds the record for the fastest century in Women’s ODI cricket. She scored a ton in just 61 balls against Ireland at The Vineyard, Dublin, Ireland in 2018. Her record will be in serious danger when Verma comes out to bat against England in the first test.
Highest score by an Indian woman in ODI
Deepti Sharma holds the record for the highest score in ODI by an Indian woman. She scored 188 runs against Ireland in May 2017 at Potchefstroom. Deepti’s blistering innings was hit at a strike rate of 117.50 and included 27 fours and two sixes. If Shaifali Verma gets going then she has the ability to break this record as well.
Third youngest to score century on debut in Women’s ODI
Shafali is just 17 years and 149 days old. She has a clear shot at becoming the third youngest to score a century on debut in Women’s ODI. Earlier, India veteran Mithali Raj and Reshma Gandhi had scored a century on debut. She will be the third youngest and sixth overall to score a ton on debut. Since 2014 no other batter has scored a century on ODI debut in women’s cricket.
Second-youngest Indian to score a century on debut
Mithali Raj scored a century on her debut against Ireland in 1999. She scored 114 runs and helped her team win by 161 runs. Raj was also 17 years old when she scored a century on debut. Now Shafali has a chance to become the second-youngest Indian women to score a century on debut in ODI.
Fastest half-century in women’s ODI
Shafali Verma will be opening the batting for India and as she is a naturally aggressive player she will aim to take the advantage of the powerplay to put England bowlers under pressure. She missed out on few records in her Test debut and will aim to break a few in ODI debut.
