England climbed to the apex of the latest ICC T20I Ranking after eclipsing Australia with a superb 6 wickets win last night in Southampton. The Three Lions currently has 5736 points while Australia are still stuck on 5724 points after failing to register a single win since their comeback from the pandemic lockdown.
Jos Butler stole the headlines once again with a quickfire 77 to propel England to a series win. England move 2-0 up as Butler scored a 38-ball fifty and Jofra Archer and Mark Wood bowl superbly with the new ball.
The series will be followed by three one-day-internationals at Emirates Old Trafford from 11 September.
The T20 World Cup, due to start in Australia in October, was moved to India in 2021 because of the coronavirus pandemic.
With England already sealing the series, the final match will be a dead-rubber. However, with the ODI series coming up in a couple of days time after the culmination of the T20I series, Australia is expected to win the tie in a bid to get into momentum for the 50-overs format.
