Here is England vs West Indies 2020 1st Test live score, Day 1

Stumps- End of Day 1

There’s no sign of the weather getting better as the umpires call it a day. England finished with 35/1 on the scoreboard after 17.4 overs on a rain-marred Day 1.
Joe Denly 14*
Rory Burns 20*

In a blessed turn of event, cricket is back as we play exactly 100 balls today. A total of 17.4 over have been played. However, unfortunately, there is no sign that the light’s improving as the time ticks away.

ENG:35/1 after 17.4 overs

Start. Stop. Start. Stop.

Poor light stops play this time!

The fourth umpire comes out with an umbrella, the light has gotten murkier and off they go. This is how the scoreboard looks so far.

England looking steady after a tough start

15 overs down and England are going along nicely since Dom Sibley’s dismissal. England looking steady after a difficult start at 34/1. Burns 20* Denly 13*

First boundary of the summer

Burns leans inside the line, and flicks confidently through deep midwicket for the first boundary of the summer!

Restart v2.0

The rain has stopped the play twice but it hasn’t marred the spirits yet, as we are back once more.

Day1 reduced to 53 overs!

We have a restart time of 8.00pm IST (3.30pm local time). Seven overs were lost after the last break and a further ten overs lost, 53 remaining. Tea to be taken at 9.30pm IST (5pm local time).

Play resumes for only one over!

Burns and Joe Denly took to the crease as Shannon Gabriel looked refreshed after his opportunity to put his feet up. However, rain intervened proceedings once more as the cover is pulled back on.

Play Stopped

A total of 3 overs has been played as the umpires signal for the covers. We’re going to have another delay as the rain has returned.

Watch the scintillating delivery from Gabriel here!

Sibley goes for a duck; Shannon Gabriel right on the money!

Shannon Gabriel strikes! He has the first wicket post resumption. He angles one on the stumps, Sibley lets it go only to hear the stumps being disturbed. He is out for a duck. What a start! ENG- 0/1

Aaaaaand we are underway!

Three slips in place with a gully. Roach on the screen. The lights go dim. Rory Burns and Sibley are at the crease. Rory Burns is on strike. Roach ready open the attack and he is right on the money!

Here we go. Let’s play some criiiiiiiiiiiiicket!

Kemar Roach is striding to his mark, Burns and his fine Richelieu beard scratching his mark. Now the players on both teams take a knee, Jason Holder among those with his fist raised. A gesture in support of the Black Lives Matter movement, to go with the logos on both shirts.

Stats overview

England has the 2nd highest Win/Loss Ratio at home.

Best Win/Loss Ratio for a Test Team at Home:

Still looking pretty gloomy around the Ageas Bowl as the teams prepare to come out. We’re anticipating the players to take a knee, following recent examples in other sports such as Premier League football and Formula 1

The umpires have scheduled 70 overs in the day. Tea will be taken at 9pm IST (4.30pm local time).

Ben Stokes:

“Reasons being we’re going to try and get the best out of it. Not going to have too much pace in it and in recent times spins come into it. No Stuart Broad or Chris Woakes, as expected. Very tough [conversation], but Stuart took it as an absolute champion.”

Jason Holder:

“We’ve gone with four quicks, with Roston Chase as a bit of a spin-bowling option. I think discipline is the name of the game. The onus is on our bowlers to put their hands up and keep leading the charge for us.”

England wins the toss and has elected to bat first
