Just hours before the start of the first test between England vs West Indies, Spark Sport has agreed a deal to broadcast the series with the England & Wales Cricket Board (ECB). Spark Sport is the number 1 OTT platform in NewZealand and is also the host broadcaster for the New Zealand Cricket. Spark Sport confirmed it had secured the exclusive New Zealand rights to all international and domestic matches played in England, under the ECB for the next four years.
Spark Sports to broadcast England vs West Indies series in New Zealand
Spark’s coverage begins almost immediately, with the first test against West Indies at Southampton scheduled to start at 10pm (NZT) on Wednesday, marking international cricket’s return from a near four-month hiatus.
This marks Spark Sport’s first live cricket as a streaming provider since it took over the rights in April to broadcast all domestic and international cricket in New Zealand for the next six years. The deal will include, West Indies three tests against the home team, before England hosts a three-match ODI series against Ireland, then Pakistan play three tests and three Twenty20 international games series in Aug-Sep.
Spark Sport’s deal covers the various competitions played under the ECB banner, including all men and women’s home internationals, the County Championship, the Vitality Blast, the Royal London Cup and The Hundred, the ECB’s new competition which has been postponed until next year.
Head of Spark Sport, Jeff Latch, said India’s five-test tour of England next year, and a 2022 northern summer featuring test tours by the Black Caps and South Africa were some upcoming highlights are included in the package deal signed with ECB.
“England holds a rich cricket history and the fan base is engaged from grassroots right through to the professional level so it’s great to know that Spark Sport will play a pivotal role in growing the game as a key delivery partner in New Zealand.”
Spark Sport will also provide highlights packages, interviews and archive footage, its release said.
